Charles D. Hogue, Jr., one of the three Extension aquaculture specialists with the National Warmwater Aquaculture Center is housed at Black Belt. He serves the catfish farmers in East Mississippi with production practices. In addition to on-site farm visits, meeting are held at Black Belt with local farmers and other interested persons for educational purposes. He also conducts basic diagnostic testing on fish health and water quality analysis. Noxubee County has the most catfish acreage in East Mississippi.
